CPC ministers swear in tomorrow

by Ranga Jayasuriya

The Central Provincial Council's new Ministers will be sworn in tomorrow (May 8), the newly appointed CPC Chief Minister W.M.P.B. Dissanayake told the Daily News yesterday.

"The set of Ministers is not yet finalised and will be appointed in due course after consultations with the Prime Minister," he added.

Chief Minister Dissanayake said he had requested WPC Governor K.B. Ratnayake to advance the next provincial council session scheduled for May 22.

"In my capacity as Chief Minister, I have requested the Governor to hold the council session before May 22 as a lot has to be done to bring the provincial administration back on track," he said.

He said the April salaries of public servants - which the previous PA administration was unable to pay when the provincial budget was defeated - have been paid.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake was appointed the Opposition leader of the Council at a meeting of the People's Alliance Provincial Council Members on Sunday.
