A student in the Medical faculty will receive Rs.20,000 and a Engineering student will receive Rs.16,000 from the Central Welfare Council Benefit Scheme of the Police Welfare Association.

Handing over the scholarships to the recipients, the IGP requested them to make maximum use of the benefit afforded to them through the Police Welfare Association and the Police Department.

The IGP wished all the recipients a bright future.

Police Welfare Association Director, Senior SP Asoka Wijetilleke said that it was a unique moment for the Police Welfare Association to hand over scholarships to 43 undergraduates, the children of all ranks of Police officers.

"These scholarships and financial assistance is given to our children in order that they reach the pinnacle in their educational career, Senior SP Wijetilleke said.

The Central Welfare Council Benefit Scheme was able to assist in financing the students of Police families mainly due to the efforts and contributions given to the Association by the IGP and all the other ranking officers.

Since the establishment of the Benefit Scheme in the 1994-1995 period, the Association had awarded 254 scholarships to Children of Police families who were selected to Universities.

The Director appealed to the recipients to make maximum use of the benefit scheme of the Association so that they reach the highest position in the country.
