Priority to solve garbage and drainage problems

by Attanagalla special correspondent

The Chairman of the Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha, Sugathadasa Senarath said that for the first time in the history of local authorities the administrative power of the Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha has been vested in the UNP.

He was speaking at a meeting at Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha's auditorium at Nittambuwa.

He further said that he would shoulder the responsibilities cast on him by the residents of the area in the most fair manner.

Priority would be given to solve the garbage and drainage problems in Nittambuwa and Veyangoda towns which had been a major threat to the environment, he said.

He also said that without fear or favour stern action would be taken to prevent unauthorised constructions in these towns. Plans are afoot to launch an accelerated program in the PS area to address more urgent problems such as pollution, the mosquito menace and other health and sanitation problems in the area, he said.

The Chairman appealed to the PA and JVP groups to extend their fullest cooperation for the success of his endeavours to serve all ratepayers in the locality without any discrimination.

Newly elected Vice Chairman, Nisthar Ahamed, R. A. Punchihewa, Sanjeewa Jayathilaka, Opposition Leader Peter Karunaratna and several others also spoke.
