by Trincomalee correspondent A team consisting of the Country Director, Asian Development Bank John R. Coorey, Program specialist K. N. Thilakaratne also attached to the ADB along with Project Director North East Community Restoration and Development Project (NECORD) T. Lankaneson and Deputy Project Director S. M. Croose recently visited Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Mullathivu and Jaffna districts to make an assessment of the needs of the districts. The Government Agents in each of the districts organised special meetings of the District Coordinating Committees and the team was appraised of the urgent needs and some of the proposals were accepted by the team. The urgent needs included the restoration of the damaged infrastructure. The NECORD has decided to reconstruct the Nedunkerni Hospital, provide a water supply system, and also to reconstruct and OPD block for the Kilinochchi base hospital and reconstruct school buildings in Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu. The team also visited Chavakachcheri and decided to provide an ambulance, a generator and a maternity ward to the badly damaged Chavakachcheri hospital. The NECORD has also decided to set up a three storeyed building for the damaged Driberg College and also reconstruct 500 houses. |
