by Attanagalla special correspondent Bandaranaike Memorial International Library at Horagolla was opened by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on May 3. The opening ceremony was conducted with the blessings of the Maha Sangha led by Chief Sanghanayake Sinadi Sivu Korala and Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharadhipati Dr. Pannila Ananda Thera. Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana, MPs Anura Bandaranaike and Dinesh Gunawardena were also present. This library constructed on a land with a tranquil and scenic, environment at Horagolla consists of a cultural centre, reference section, children's section, a large reading room and a residential research facility for foreign academics visiting Sri Lanka to do research work. President Kumaratunga said this library is not only a centre for learning, it is also a catalyst for research activities by foreign academics. She thanked Prof. A.V. Suraweera, Lakshman Jayakody and Mrs. Sunethra Bandaranaike for their efforts and guidance which made the opening of the library this year a reality. Minister Kodituwakku and Bandaranaike International Memorial Library's Management Council Chairman Prof. A.V. Suraweera also spoke. |
