The DIG in charge of the Terrorist Investigating Department Nihal Karunaratne was yesterday arrested on bribery charges. He was taken into custody on the complaint received by the Commission to investigate Bribery and Corruption. The complaint had been lodged by the OIC of the Morawewa Police station in 1997. The complaint against the DIG was that he had demanded rice, goats and fowls from the OIC to release weapons to the Police station. Karunaratne was then SSP Kantale. The DIG was released on Rs. 10,000 personal bail. |
