Major boost to kick off Janet brands launched in India under FTA

The Janet group has exported a full container load of their famed Ayurvedic health and beauty care brands to India last week, to mark the launch of Janet brands in India on April 29, in Mumbai at the 'Janet Beauty and SPA Show 2002'. Janet is the first Sri Lankan brand of beauty care to enter the highly competitive Indian market and is poised to do well under the benefits available to Sri Lankan exporters under the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA) proprietor, Janet Balasuriya said.

The launch of Janet brands was presented by a team of Janet Hairdressers and Beauticians from Sri Lanka, led by Janet Balasuriya in association with the Indian Association of Hair Dressing and Cosmetology, at a show for over 800 hair and beauty professionals - comprising the cream of the industry from Mumbai, Maharastra and the adjoining states. The international style presentation combines education with glamour and fashion -with lectures, demonstrations, multimedia, catwalk models, music and special effects too - is billed to hold audiences spellbound, as Janet presents the beauty of modern Ayurveda to India, she said.

"We are really excited about the show and are quite confident that it will give a major boost to kick off our multi-media advertising and promotion campaign that is scheduled to begin shortly. It is quite ironic in a sense, because we are taking a foreign Ayurvedic range to India - the birthplace of Ayurveda. However, our superior formulations based on years of intensive research, combined with the world's finest natural ingredients and new hi-tech international packaging give us the confidence to take on India's Ayurvedic Industry and the World," Ms Balasuriya said.

Janet Balasuriya is Sri Lnaka's first lady of beauty care, with 40 years experience in the field. Her Janet Nature Collection' range is already the market leader in the Herbal Skin Care in Sri Lnaka for over five years, outselling all the competitive local and international brands marketed by multinational companies.

She has won several local and international awards for her excellence in entrepreneurship, innovation and international success in herbal care. Her exotic herbal portions are also exported to Europe, Australia, Middle East, India, Pakistan and the Maldives. Janet is also finalising plans to enter the North American market starting with Canada - a first shipment is now under process, and thereafter to mainland China and Hong Kong - where market tests are now being carried out.

The Janet group also markets a wide range of other Janet branded personal care products in Sri Lanka including Janet Baby - Herbal Care, Janet StayFresh - Perfumed Bath and Body Care and Janet Salon Science - professional salon products.

Early last year the launch of Janet brands in India became a milestone for the Janet group - as they became the first ever range of foreign ayurvedic skin treatments to be launched in India. It was a pleasant surprise that our brands received such wide acceptance from Indian consumers currently being bombarded by a storm of western cosmetic brands among which are many global giants in skin care," Ms. Balasuriya said.

The company is making use of the incentives offered to Sri Lankan products under the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement and hopes to develop these cost benefits as a major competitive advantage in the Indian market.
