by Sarath Samaranayake The Government is making a genuine effort to achieve peace and it is the duty of all citizens to strengthen and encourage the Government in its peace effort, Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkita Maha Nayake Thera of the Asgiri Maha Nikaya told Co-operative Minister Abdul Cader when the latter called upon the Maha Nayaka Thera. "An end to the war would not only benefit the Government, it would also benefit all citizens, the Maha Nayake Thera added. He also expressed his regret over the effort of certain sections to sabotage the Government's peace effort. Minister Cader said that the Government and the LTTE have entered the peace process with a definite framework. It would benefit all communities and provide an atmosphere where they could live together happily, he added. He questioned whether it would be of use to oppose the Government peace program without putting forward any alternative program for peace. "If the LTTE could come forward to negotiate with the Government, why cannot these people negotiate with the Government", he queried. |
