Nuwara Eliya Road Races ; Four riders stopped from racing

There were thrills, excitements and objections at the biggest Nuwara Eliya Road Races 2002, sponsored by the Sri Lanka Motor Cycles Club in Association with the Nuwara Eliya Motor Racing Club.

Veteran Riders and drivers with the up and coming racing enthusiasts in motor racing and riding kept the crowd of over twenty five thousand spectators spell bound - Nuwara Eliya Road Races is the biggest crowd puller during the April festivities here.

Dilantha Malagamuwa, Yoga Perera, Mahen Thambiah, Dushan Dinamithra did extremely well with their driving and riding sills.

It was very unfortunate that there were several objections against some riders who took part in the 250 CC Standard modified class. A rider was impounded by the club and later similarly three other bikes too were impounded on allegations that the bikes were fitted with pure bread Racing machines. On the day of practice the scrutinizers had reported that some 125 CC Standard Modified, and 250 Standard Motor Bikes were not keeping to the conformity to the club rules. Later the club officials were alleged to have been threatened by a group of riders that if the suspected bikes were not allowed on the track, they will boycott the meet.

In spite of such allegations and objections the Race meet was concluded.

Stylish Rider who was admired by the Motor bike Racing crowds at Nuwara Eliya and other places Ranjith Chandrasekara had come for this Race meet from Australia. This rider together with Dallas Martinstyn, who had Ridden on their bikes to Mount Pedro in 1984.
