LTTE refutes false reports

The Head of the LTTE political office in Vavuniya, Edilan has denied reports that the LTTE has ordered the removal of Sinhala name boards in Vavuniya said Ven. Siyambalagaswewa Wimalasara thera, President, Vanni Peace Foundation.

Ven. Wimalasara said Edilan made this denial when he met him to check on the authencity of this story. Edilan said the LTTE had never contemplated such an order and that he believed the rumour had been spread by interested parties to deceive the masses and scuttle the on going peace process.

The LTTE political office in Vavuniya treated Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims in Vavuniya as members of a single community. Edilan emphasised at this meeting.

Ven. Wimalasara said security forces in Vavuniya are continuing their normal security duties and functions despite the opening of the LTTE political office in the area.

A peaceful environment prevail in Vavuniya enabling Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim Communities to live without fear and suspicion.
