LTTE cadres released on bail

by Trincomalee correspondent

Seven LTTE cadres arrested by the Navy in the prohibited sea area off the Trincomalee harbour were released on personal bail of Rs. 15,000 each when they were produced before Trincomalee Magistrate A. Yagendra on Wednesday.

The Magistrate ordered the suspects to appear in court again on May 8.

A Naval patrol observing the illegal movements of boats in this area spotted these two boats, arrested seven LTTEers and handed them over to the Harbour Police for further investigation on Wednesday. The cadres had told the investigators that they had been returning to Vakarai and Mullaitivu after attending a meeting at an LTTE area leader's residence in Sampur.

SI R.M.N. Ratnayake of the Harbour Police prosecuted.
