Mobile phone charges go up

Mr. Ajith Fernando, Senior Manager, Customer Operations, Celltel Lanka (Pvt) Limited has sent us the following letter with respect to our news item with the above title which appeared on this page yesterday. "In it your reporter attributes certain comments to me by name. I would like to bring to your notice that I was not contacted by the reporter in question and that I did not speak to him. I was in fact on leave and in a location beyond Habarana, out of phone contact at the time. Mr. Kannangara supposedly spoke to me. I would like to state therefore that none of the comments attributed to me in the article were made by me and to my knowledge not by anybody in my company.".

Editor's note: Our reporter stands by his story. He says that the telephone operator at Celltel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. connected him to Mr. Fernando when he wanted a comment on the intended hike in mobile phone charges.
