Extortionist arrested by Sarath Malalasekera Thuyawan who posing as an LTTE cadre from Jaffna had demanded a ransom of Rs.300,000 from a lodge owner in Kotahena and accepted Rs.50,000, was arrested by the Kotahena Intelligence Bureau led by SI Adikari yesterday morning. Investigations directed by Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage revealed that the suspect is alleged to have been involved in several other underworld gang operations in the Colombo district. It was revealed that the suspect had also demanded a ransom from a lodge owner in the Maradana Police division. Police have seized Rs.35,000 cash, cheques to the value of Rs.155,000 and a van from the possession of the suspect. The Colombo DIG appealed to the public to inform of any incidents of demanding ransom, on telephone number 431428 or to the OIC or the SP of the nearest Police station. |
