Fulfilling Ashraff's aims prime objective

by Addalaichenai special correspondent

It was one of the prime dreams of the late Minister, M. H. M. Ashraff that the Kalmunai Urban Council should be upgraded to the status of a Municipal Council. Although he is no more, his aspiration has been fulfilled today. Getting on with the work left by our late leader is the prime objectives of our present leader Rauff Hakeem, said Digamadulla Member of Parliament M. H. M. Harees.

He was speaking at a official inauguration ceremony held last week to mark the declaration of the Municipal Council of Kalmunai. The Kalmunai Urban Council was upgraded to the status of Municipal Council from 15.4.2002.

He said that the recent memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that took place between the LTTE leader, Velupillai Prabakaran and the SLMC leader, Rauff Hakeem is a historical record not only for the Muslim Community but for the Tamil community too. This MoU paved the way to forget the past differences and rebuild the past relationships that existed between the two communities earlier.

The people in this area should come forward towards the peace process forgetting all differences, he further said.
