Saama Daham Charika The Saama Daham Charika procession that takes the new pinnacle for crowning the newly built cetiya of the historic Nagadeepa Viharaya in the North will reach the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya today (April 26) where a thrividha cetiya pooja will be held at 7 p.m. followed by an all night pirith chanting. The motorcade taking the pinnacle to Jaffna will leave the Kalutara Bodhi premises this morning and proceed along Galle Road passing through Bumbalapitiya, Vajira Road, Vajiraramaya, High Level Road, Thummulla Junction, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Borella and Kandy Road to reach the Kelaniya Viharaya. It will be received at Pothupitiya at 9.30 a.m., Wadduwa at 9.45 a.m., Panadura at 10.15 a.m. and Keselwatte (old road) at 10.30 a.m. When the motorcade reaches Raja Pushparamaya, Mt. Lavinia around 12 noon residents in the area will be provided with an opportunity until 2 p.m. to pay homage to the pinnacle and the other sacred objects. At 2 p.m. the motorcade will resume its journey from the Raja Pushparamaya and reach the Bambalapitiya Vajiraramaya, at 4 p.m. After a brief stop over it will leave the Vajiraramaya to reach the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya in time for the Thrividha Cetiya pooja at 7 p.m. The all night pirith chanting will begin at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya at 9 p.m. and conclude at 6 a.m. tomorrow. |
