Japanese Parliamentary delegation arrives tomorrow

A special Japanese Parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Hosei Norota, Special Envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister, Junichiro Koizumi will arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (27) to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka.

This high level delegation comprise 15 members of Parliament of Japan. They will leave the country on April 30.

The delegation will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe on April 29 at the Temple Trees.

On April 30, they will meet President, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

During their stay here the delegation will visit the temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and will go on a sightseeing tour around the Kandy-Peradeniya areas.

The itinerary will also include receptions hosted by Ministers, Karu Jayasuriya, Prof. G. L. Peiris and Tyronne Fernando and a lunch hosted by the Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Seiichiro Otsuka.

The delegation will also visit the JICA project site at the Dental Faculty of the Peradeniya University.

Mr. Norota, the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister is currently the Chairman of the Committee on Fundamental National Policies of Japan and was the Deputy Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party, Minister of Agriculture and Minister of State for Defence.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tyronne Fernando will be receiving Mr. Norota and the delegation on April 27th at 7.20 p.m. at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.
