CNCI business awards ceremony By Shirajiv Sirimane The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) has made arrangements to hold its prestigious business awards ceremony on July 19 at the Ceylon Continental Hotel. The objective of the ceremony is to honour local industrialists and businessmen in Sri Lanka and the SAARC region. The umbrella associations of the SAARC countries will nominate an outstanding industrialist and businessman who has contributed to the development of industry in the respective country. Each SAARC country will be entitled to one Gold award, Chairman, CNCI, Asoka De Z Gunasekera said. "Sri Lankan Industry operating in SAARC Country Award" is a special award presented to an industry which has a Sri Lankan ownership of over 50% and its top management comprising Sri Lankans," he said. Awards will be presented in four categories: Large, Small and Micro for the 'Sri Lankan national award' with each category carrying a Gold, Silver, Bronze and two merit awards. There will be three categories for the Provincial award for the Medium, Small and Micro sector. Outstanding applications for the 'Provincial award' will also be considered for the 'Sri Lanka National award.' A total of 43 awards will be presented at this ceremony and entries for the event close on May 31 with the CNCI. The CNCI set up in 1960 was incorporated in 1969 and today has a membership of around 300 representing large medium and small companies.
