by Shirajiv Sirimane

The Institute for Integrated Learning in Management,(IILM) New Delhi, India plans to set up one of their academies in Sri Lanka.

Assitanat Professor, IILM, Padmakali Mishra, who is in Sri Lanka said that there were numerous inquiries from Sri Lankans for enrolment. "Due to this overwhelming response we are hoping to set up an academy in Colombo and are negotiating with Ceylon Tours Limited, our local agents to draw up the blueprint in this regard."

Sales and Marketing Manager Ceylon Tours Ltd, Ramzi Ali, said that they have already met the Minister of Education with regard to the opening of the IILM academy in Colombo. "He was very keen towards this project" he said.

Ms. Mishra, said that the IILM set up in 1993 has been ranked as a category 'A' plus business school and has gained the 13th position among the top 100 business schools in India. "We have a strategic collaboration with University of Bradford, United Kingdom, since 1995 and our certificates have international recognition. The convocation ceremony of our academy is being directly conducted by the Bradford university staff."

"We have many students from Bangladesh and Mauritius already attending our management courses. We are now opening our doors to Sri Lankan students and are planning to offer some scholarships as well," she said. "Our total study package will be less than one-third of the fees payable to study in UK."

She said that all foreign students are guaranteed accommodation either in the Academy or in the private sector housing managed by IILM. "All accommodation will have modern facilities including very fast internet connections since some of our study courses are online."

Ms. Mishra said that in addition to their management courses a student is compulsorily required to undertake a minimum of six modules out of the 13 'Total personality development courses' that are offered by IILM over a period of study of three years. ''These include Yoga, Pottery, TV presentation, Indian folk dance, western Dance and pottery," she said.

The programs offered by IILM include Bachelor of Science in Business and Management Studies, Business Computing, Software Engineering, Bachelors in Engineering, Masters in Marketing, Business Administration and Post Graduate Diploma in Film and Media Studies.
