Plan to increase paddy cultivation

The Minister of Irrigation and Water Management Gamini Jayawickrama Perera has drown a master plan to increase paddy cultivation of Wayamba Province.

Under this massive paddy cultivation project all available paddy lands would come under cultivation on the systematic basis of strict water management and the total responsibility of implementing the project will be given to the cultivation committees and farmer organisations of the relevant areas.

The Minister has already insturected the officials of the Provincial Irrigation Department to commence the renovation and reconstruction works of all major and medium scale irrigational network so as to enable the distribution of water under systematic water management.

As the first step Batalagoda, Magallewewa, Hakwatuna-Oya, Kimbulwana-Oya, Karunegala Wenderu Wewa, Tobbowa and Redibendi-ella irrigational schemes will be renovated.
