Three dead in separate accidents

From our Matugama Roving Correspondent

A father and a son were instantly killed when they were overrun by a speeding private bus plying between Walallawita and Meegastenna in Matugama.

The bus was coming at speed and the driver was not in control of the vehicle, Police said.

The driver, who had no licence, was taken to custody. The bodies have been taken to the Nagoda Hospital. Investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, one person died near the Hakgala botanical gardens when their hired private bus went off the road and fell into a 200-feet precipice around 11 am yesterday. Seventeen others were injured and admitted to the Nuwara Eliya hospital.

The group from Colombo had been travelling to Nuwara Eliya to take part in seasonal celebrations. The deceased has been identified as Mohamed Ruzwi from Pettah. Nuwara Eliya police are investigating.
