Considering the degree of professionalism that has been exhibited in resolving conflicts, Bangladesh yesterday urged Sri Lanka to take initiatives in resolving regional issues under SAARC umbrella. Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Morshed Khan requested his visiting Sri Lankan counterpart Tyronne Fernando that Sri Lanka as a neutral partner in the region, should take initiatives in finding solutions to the regional issues within the SAARC framework. Minister Fernando had extensive bilateral talks with Minister Khan in Dhaka on Monday night. The Bangladeshi Foreign Minister who urged the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister for his cooperation on regional and international issues relating to the South Asian Region. Minister Tyronne Fernando, when asked, has told Minister Khan that the issue of the Muslims in conflict areas was solved in a satisfactory note. Minister Khan has shown a special interest in the issue of Muslims living in North and East. Minister Fernando has briefed his counterpart about the current peace process in Sri Lanka. Among the other issues discussed were, civil aviation, defence, fisheries and education under technical cooperation. Both the Ministers exchanged ideas about Sri Lankan investments in Bangladesh and Minister Khan pledged that there will be more incentives and a friendly environment for the investors from the region in near future. |
