Muslims should unite to usher in peace

Trincomalee correspondent

Minister of Port Development and Shipping Eastern Development and Muslim Religious Affairs Rauf Hakeem addressing a seminar on "Peace Process and North East Muslims" held at the Zahira Maha Vidyalayam, Trincomalee said the Muslims should not allow them to be blamed for any breakdown in the present peace process as some forces are trying to sabotage the peace process and to put the blame on the Muslim community. Muslims should unite under one organisation to thwart this attempt.

Mr. Hakeem appealed that the Muslims in this country should support the North East Muslims realising the political aspiration. The time has come for the Muslim community to make a determined bid to achieve their political aspirations through talks with all the parties concerned. He also mentioned about a 'Reawakening Rally' to be held at Kalmunai on April 20 to make the North East Muslims aware of their stand on the solution to be found for the ethnic problem.

SLMC Parliamentarians M. S. Thawfeek, K. M. Thawfeek (Trincomalee district), M. A. M. Harris (Ampara district) and UNP MP for Trincomalee district M. A. M. Maharoof also spoke.
