National Art Centre with Chinese aid

by Nadira Gunatilleke

Early arrangements will be made to set up a National Art Centre in Colombo with the assistance of the Chinese Government. Sri Lanka has already received a huge amount of aid from China since the two countries established friendship in 1956, Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr.Karunasena Kodithuwakku said.

He was speaking after receiving Rs.1.2 million worth electric organs from the Chinese Ambassador Jiang Qin Sheng. The organs will be distributed among cultural centres set up at Divisional Secretariat level. The Minister said that China has been assisting Sri Lanka in the fields of economics, politics and culture.

The BMICH and Supreme Court complex are two of significant Chinese donations. There was no change in the friendship between Sri Lanka and China although different political parties governed Sri Lanka in the past. "I thank the Chinese Government for their continuous assistance", the Minister said.

Chinese Ambassador Jiang Qin Sheng said that the Chinese Government will never forget the support extended by the Sri Lankan Government to protect the territorial integrity of China. "We will not expect anything in return for the assistance we grant to Sri Lanka". We will provide maximum amount of aid to the Sri Lankan Government and we also wish that peace will established in this country soon", he added.

Ministry Secretary V. K. Nanayakkara, Ministry Additional Secretary Seetha Rajapaksa and Ministry Additional Secretary K.K.W.Tillakasiri were present on the occasion.
