LTTE-CWC pledge to work together

by Rodney Martinesz

Plantation boss Minister Arumugam Thondaman emerged from his ground breaking meeting with LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran pledging to work together for the resolution of the Tamil national question. Thondaman who returned to Colombo from Kilinochchi following the talks described as frank and cordial by CWC sources immediately took wing to London. He told reporters at KIA that the CWC had agreed to work together for the right of self determination of Tamils." The CWC would support all steps taken by the LTTE in its struggle in this regard", he was quoted in the Internet.

The CWC delegation led by Minister Thondaman flew to Killinochchi Sunday morning and held wide ranging discussions with the LTTE leader in connection with the peace process. The rest of the delegation comprised Deputy Minister Muthu Sivalingam, R. Yogarajan and Deputy Leader of the CWC, M. S. Sellasamy.

The LTTE would be willing to accept a reasonable offer to end the ongoing conflict. This was discernible in the talks between LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and CWC chief Arumugam Thondaman in the North on Saturday according to R. Yogarajan, member of the delegation.

The LTTE leader reiterated his position that the current ban against the organisation be lifted as a pre-condition to peace talks while also insisting upon a reasonable role in the proposed interim administration for the LTTE, Yogarajan said. It was recalled here the role played by Thondaman Snr. in suggesting that the North be handed over to the LTTE for a five year period to run an interim administration.

Minister Thondaman pledged to provide whatever assistance needed to take forward the present peace process which is brokered by the Nowegian Government.

Anton Balasingham, the LTTE's political adviser, S. P. Thamilchelvan, head of the movement's political wing and V. Balakumar assisted Prabhakaran in the discussion.
