by Reggie Fernando, Our London correspondent People applying for visas to enter Britain will be required to provide a host of new information according to the latest immigration laws published last Friday. These new laws are expected to come into force by August this year, Prior to the issuing of a visa at any British visa office around the world every applicant will be required to provide biometric data - digital images of the face, fingerprints and the iris - apart from the usual information asked for in the visa application form. State-of-the-art high-tech devices will obtain these requirements. Officials sources told the Daily News that the biometric data would be stored on a microchip and placed on the visa. This will enable immigration officers to check that those seeking admission to UK are who they say they are as the exact information will be available on their computers to immigration officials at entry points to the country here. The same sources said that new updated scanning devices to identify forged passports are also to be introduced. |
