Lanka's tea exports up 21.6 per cent to 2.6 million kgs in February Exports for February declared at 25.9 million kgs show a growth of 11.6 per cent or 2.6 million kgs when compared with the same period last year. Bulk exports show a growth of 1.4 million kgs or 10.6 per cent. Tea in packets show a growth of 0.72 million kgs or 11.3 per cent whilst tea bags record a growth of 0.26 million kgs or 26.8 per cent when compared with the same period last year. Volume up 8.58% or 3.8 million kgs for the year Exports for the period January/February shows a growth of 8.58 percent or 3.8 million kgs when compared with the same period last year. Bulk exports shows a growth of 2.8 million kgs or 10.8 per cent. Tea in bags record a growth of 0.44 million kgs or 22.5 per cent when compared with the same period last year. Export earnings for the month up 9.3% Export earnings for the month appreciated 9.3% when compared with the same period last year. Bulk tea export account for 48.5% of total export earnings inclusive of imports for re-exports for the month. Export earnings up 8.06% for the year Export earnings for the period January/February shows a growth of 8.06 per cent when compared with the same period last year. Once again the largest growth of 6.6 per cent is from bulk tea exports. Approx. average unit FOB value down Rs. 1.06 Total approx. average unit FOB value for the period January/February shows a decline of Rs. 1.06. The largest drop in value has been from the bulk tea exports which show a decline of Rs. 6.91. Unit FOB value of all other forms of export excluding imports for re-exports show an increase when compared with the same period last year. Exports to CIS up 2.5 million kgs for January/February 2002 CIS retains its number one position as the largest market for Sri Lanka tea exports. Exports to CIS records a growth of 2.5 million kgs or 26.5 per cent when compared with the same period last year. Exports to Syria, Iran, Iraq, Tunisia, Japan, UK, Saudi Arabia and Jordan shows an increase whilst exports to UAE, Turkey and Libya have recorded a decline for the period under review when compared with 2001.
