PA, JVP should support peace deliberation

"I was amazed to learn that there was a segment of people in Jaffna who have not imbibed any sort of education for twenty long years due to the unfortunate war situation that prevailed in the north and east. Nevertheless, this marginalized and hapless sector cannot be ignored or overlooked. They should not be allowed to regret in retrospect, but rather reinforce and strengthen them economically. And this should be our prime task and obligation," said Puttalam district Chief Organiser and UNF MP Neomal Perera.

He was speaking after inaugurating a Mobile Service at Madampe in the Chilaw electorate recently.

He said, "I learnt regarding the untold sufferings the residents there in Jaffna must have endured, when we were living here happily in cool comfort. And, clearly, all the agonies they suffered were mainly due to the shortcomings and drawbacks of past governments in power. Incidentally, I was in Jaffna to represent the business community.

"Further, I must say that the people in the north have at last obtained the freedom they needed just like their counterparts in the south. But the PA and the JVP were criticising the deficiencies of the peace negotiations. But they should stop all this nonsense and think of the integrity of the nation and unite to collaborate in the deliberations of the peace process."

Wayamba Provincial Councillor L. M. Ayub Khan said that the president had said during the last Sinhala New Year that peace would dawn in Sri Lanka. But, this, she could not achieve, but due to the ability of the present Premier, we could celebrate the New Year peacefully. After a period of nine years, a statesman of the calibre of a Prime Minister toured Jaffna to unite all people, and for all people devoid of any distinctions to dwell in one country.

Madampe UNF Organiser Janaka Predeep Soysa and Madampe Divisional Secretary S. M. L. Chandrasiri also spoke.
