New year message by Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, Minister of Human Resources, Education and Cultural Affairs

Human Resources, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr.Karunasena Kodituwakku in a New Year message stated that peace and harmony is being achieved to all Sri Lankans specially to the Sinhalese and the Tamils as another New Year dawns.

The New Year where cultural activities of two communities, Sinhalese and Tamils are blended in harmony is a significant national festival, especially in this year as people are determined to enjoy lasting peace in the country.

The New Year festival which is celebrated to admire the Sun, portrays the cultural bondage among different communities in Sri Lanka. The worship of the sun by majority Lankans carries a special message: peace and harmony among different communities. The New Year festival also symbolises a bountiful agricultural harvest. As never in the past, all Sri Lankans are today yearning for such a prosperous time of peace and plenty in time to come.

Today, Sri Lankans are wanting the comfort of lasting peace. I wish their hopes and aspirations were fulfilled in the coming year. I wish lasting peace would be achieved to our country soon.
