Second Ranweta at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi: Campaign to raise Rs. 30 m. to be launched

A campaign to raise Rs.30 million for the construction of a Second Ranveta at the Jayasri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura will be launched during the Sinhala and Hindu New Year, Vesak and Poson season.

This was decided at a meeting presided by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Prime Minister's Office last week. Justice and Buddhasasana Minister W.J.M.Lokubandara, Human Resource, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr.Karunasena Kodituwakku, Samurdhi Minister R.A.D.Sirisena, Housing Development Minister P.Harrison, Sustainable Development Advisor K.H.J.Wijayadasa, PM's Additional Secretary Saman Athaudahetty, People's Bank Chairman Lal Nanayakkara and Hayleys Ltd.Chairman Sunil Mendis participated, a PM's office communique stated.

A 17 member fund raising and construction committee and a 15 member advisory committee were also set up to accelerate the work as the construction is expected to complete by end of this year.

The Premier said that necessary fund could be collected from people of all faiths irrespective of their religious differences as this is considered a national heritage project.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe asked Dr.Kodituwakku to take necessary steps to preserve the old Dutch flag lying at Lankathilaka Viharaya and the old Dutch building where the present Mission of Seamen's Church is located in Fort.

The Minister will consult the Viharadhipathi of the Lankatilaka Viharaya and its Basnayake Nilame in this regard.
