National Relay Championships from May 3

The curtain raiser of National Athletic Calendar for the current year under the stewardship of the newly elected President, Sunil Jayaweera would be the National Relay Carnival which will be worked off on 3rd, 4th and 5th of May 2002 at Police Grounds, Bambalapitiya. This event will be sponsored by Dialog GSM who have immensely contributed towards promotion of athletics in Sri Lanka in the recent years.

According to Jayaweera there will be a total of 45 relays this year which incidentally is the highest number in a Relay Championship ever held in Sri Lanka. He states, that elaborate arrangements will be made to ensure highest ever participation of clubs and schools from all corners of the island including from the North-East at this mega event.

Entries have already been posted to affiliated District Associations, Clubs and Schools throughout the island. Further, entries could be obtained from Captain Shemal Fernando, "The Anchorage", 41/2, Pantaleon Mawatha, Kandana. The closing date of entries will be 10th April 2002 and should be forwarded as per the specimen entry form. Late entries will not be entertained.
