A grant of Rs.78.2 million was provided to UNICEF by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) recently to promote children's rights to protection from abuse and exploitation. The grant was made for a period of three years from year 2002 to 2004. The program includes preventive action and support for affected children, involving relevant sectors of government and key NGOs working together in partnership. The funds will also be utilised to expand the infrastructure and address judicial, law enforcement, probation and child care, therapy, counselling and rehabilitation issues. The National Child Protection Authority will be the government focal point for this project. This funding is part of the development co-operation between the Sri Lankan and the Swedish government. |
