By Nadira Gunatilleke Six archaeological publications of the Department of Archaeology was launched at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo 7 recently with the presence of Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr.Karunasena Kodithuwakku. Speaking at the occasion Minister Kodithuwakku said that the publications are very important because some segments of the present society does not know about the rich cultural and archaeological heritage. Such persons can be educated through this kind of publications. People can gain knowledge through this kind of work and it helps to convey knowledge about the continuation of human civilisation. Launching this six books is more significant because it is another important task completed within the 100 Days Program of the Government, he added. Director General Archaeology, Dr.W.H.Wijepala, Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Ministry Secretary, V.K.Nanayakkara, Dr.Malini Dias and several others spoke. Dr. Malini Dias's Epigraphia Zeylanica (eighth volume), Sigiri Graffiti (translated by Prof. Sucharitha Gamlath), Senerath Dissanayake's Yapahuwa, Prof.Senarath Paranawithana's Inscriptions of Ceylon (Second volume - Second part), Ephigraphia Zeylanica (translated by Dr. Saddhamangala Karunaratne and Sri Lanka Tampita Vihara Sampradaya edited by Dr.Gamini Wijesooriya were launched at the ceremony. |
