SLBC listeners complain

by P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya

A number of listeners of the SLBC channels complain that in the recent past they are unable to listen clearly to the morning 'Seth Pirith' and News bulletin due to very poor reception. They say the conditions on 97.0 MH2 from Radella F.M. station is unsatisfactory.

They say that all signals from private broadcasting stations are very strong, clear and well heard.

On inquiries it is revealed that after the closure of the medium wave station at Ambewela, listeners were compelled to turn to National programs from Radella station. It is stated that the Transmitter Equipment worth millions of rupees was dismantled and kept at Ambewela Transmitting station. This valuable equipment was the gift from the West German government during the tenure of office of late J.R. Jayewardene.

Meanwhile, the SLBC Circuit bungalow which was constructed at a cost of several million rupees too has been closed for the past two years, depriving the large number of staff of the SLBC coming up here for holidays.
