Sri Lankan missionary monk in Singapore comes home

Ven. Weragoda Sarada Maha Thera, Sri Lankan Buddhist monk, residing in Singapore, heading the Singapore Buddhist Meditation Centre, visited Sri Lanka recently, leading a delegation of Singaporean devotees.

The Ven. monks, remembers the village school where he studied as a child.

He contributes lavishly towards the progress of this school - Vijayaba College at Weragoda, Ambalangoda.

He has donated computers worth rupees one hundred and fifty thousand, to help the students acquire computer literacy. He maintains a library, which is funded by him. He has provided the essential requirements of this school.

He has provided pipe-borne water for the students, along with electric fans.

He has lavishly supported the school band. Each year, the three most promising students of the school are given scholarships, to facilitate their studies.

These scholarships enable the recipient students to pursue their studies upto university level. Over and above this, he donates hundred rupees each, to 210 selected students, from underprivileged backgrounds.

The Ven. monk pays the salaries of the teachers of the Sarvodaya pre-school attached to the college. He spends Rs. 600,000 each years towards the progress of the school. In his recent visit to Sri Lanka, he led the Singaporean delegation, to his childhood school.
