Two Sri Lankans are among the 13 who died when a wall of water flooded into a dry dock in Dubai on Wednesday. The search resumed yesterday for the bodies of another 31 still missing. "We are expecting more details from our Consular General in Dubai to verify whether any more Lankans are among the victims", Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau Deputy General Manager L.K. Ruhunage said. About 76 Lankans were employed at this dry dock owned by Dubai Drydocks Ltd and the two victims have been identified as Jayasooriya Dinesh Perera and Anura Don Kalutantrige. Agency reports said that 23 were injured in the accident. About 240 workers, most of them Sri Lankans, Indians, Bangladeshis and Filipinos were on the job at the time of this tragedy at the Dock number two, which measures 100 metres by 525 metres. |
