The 2002 Budget presented by Central Provincial Council (CPC) Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake was defeated by eight votes at the end of a two-day debate yesterday. There were 22 votes for the budget and 30 against. The six councillors of the Ceylon Workers Congress and two councillors of the Upcountry people's Front voted against the budget. Three councillors from the ruling PA of the CPC were absent at the time of voting. The single JVP councillor abstained from voting. |
