Electricity rates up

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has raised electricity tariffs by 31 to 38 per cent operative from April 1.

According to the revised electricity tariffs announced by the CEB domestic users will have to pay Rs.3 for the first 30 units, Rs.4 for 31 to 60 units, Rs.4.40 for 61 - 90 units and Rs.10.60 for 91 to 180 units. Rs.15.80 will be charged above 180 units used by domestic consumers.

A fixed charge of Rs.30 will be imposed on all domestic consumers according to the revised electricity tariffs.

The revised tariff for consumers using electricity for religious purposes will be Rs.2.50 for the first 30 units, Rs.2.70 for 31 to 90 units, Rs.4 for 91 to 180 units and Rs.7.20 above 180 units. The fixed rate of Rs.30 will also be applicable for these consumers too.
