SriLankan package lures more Indians

SriLankan Airlines' 'buy one get one free' promotional offer of a free ticket to Sri Lanka for every ticket purchased, has seen an increase in passengers from India with several top Indian corporate firms and professional associations making use of this opportunity to host their functions and conferences in Sri Lanka, an airline spokesman said.

SPICE Telecom, Coke, Indian Institute of Planning and Management, Indian Medical Association, Compaq, Ericsson, Videocon and celebrities and journalists on private visits have travelled/ are booked to travel to Sri Lanka, making use of SriLankan's promotional packages.

Many Indian firms and institutions have found that Sri Lanka offers excellent conference facilities and attractive conference packages. The most recent was Pepsi which held its all India conference/meet in Sri Lanka from February 1 to 5 which was attended by 184 Pepsi employees from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Pepsi also chose Sri Lanka because it was a value for money destination.

SriLankan Airlines made several special arrangements for the Pepsi conference. Special check in counters were set up in the airports at delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Colombo for this group which also obtained additional free baggage allowances to Sri Lanka and back. Special inflight announcements felicitated the delegates on onward and return journeys.

"The Pepsi delegates took to Sri Lanka so much that one Vice President said that even if they had to travel in future to Europe or the Far East they would always do so via Colombo," J.D. Weiman, SriLankan's Manager, North India said.

The prestigious and nationally acclaimed Cadbury Bournvita Quiz Contest from India will shoot 14 of their episodes featuring 150 students from schools all over India and Indian schools in the Gulf and Nepal in Bentota in south western Sri Lanka later this year.
