The Ruhunu Super Sprint 2002 will be conducted on March 31 at the Sri Lanka Air Force base, Koggala to coincide with the 15th anniversary of Ruhunu Motor Sports Club of Matara, the sole organiser of the meet.

Ruhunu Motor Sports Club, the premier motor sports club of Ruhuna, organised the first ever 'Quarter Mile' sprint event in Sri Lanka successfully on the 26th June 1999 and over 135 competitors participated. It should be mentioned that this event helped many novices who participated to enter the motor racing arena, and this year too many novices are expected to participate.

Unfortunately, due to the tense security situation, which prevailing during the past, we were compelled not to conduct the event, last year.

The Ruhunu Motor Sports Club is thankful to the commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force who without any hesitation approved our request to conduct the Ruhunu Super Sprint - 2002 at the Air Force Base in Koggala which would be a good opportunity for all the Racing drivers to rev up their engines, before the other motor sporting events during the April season.

Entries will close on the 25th and the following events will be worked off commencing at 9 a.m.

1. Group 'A' cars over 14 kgs/hp, 2. Group 'A' cars over 12 kgs/hp, 3. Group 'A' cars over 10 kgs/hp, 4. Group 'A' cars over 08 kgs/hp, 5. Group 'A' cars over 06 kgs/hp, 6. Mini Standard up to - 1050 cc., 7. M & S up to 1050 cc., 8. M & S up to - 1350 cc., 9. M & S up to - 1665 cc., 10. M & S up to 2600 cc., 11. M & S open - Super cars, 12. Diesel cars - non turbo - open, 13. Off Roaders - Diesel non turbo - open, 14. Off Roaders - Diesel - turbo, 15. Off Roaders - Petrol - open, 16. Group 'A' ladies - up to 1665 cc. 17. Ford Formula standard up to 1600 cc, 18. Group 'A' Ladies up to 1050 cc.
