Sureni reaches another milestone

Promising badminton player G.G. Sureni Kumudu Nandasiri of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda reached another milestone in her career when she was selected to represent the country at the Uber Cup World badminton championships in Netherlands.

The rest of the team members selected for this tournament were Chandrika de Silva, Thilini Jayasinghe, Nadeesha Gayanthi, Sriyani Deepika and Tharaka Abeywickerama.

Sureni Kumudu Nandasiri launched her badminton career at a very young age at Dharmasoka College and soon developed into a talented player winning a number of junior titles. She had the honour of following a special training program in India and later turned out to be a major force in all ranking tournaments conducted by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association.

Sureni Kumudu Nandasiri also had the opportunity of competing in the Krishna Kaithan open tournament in Madras, Uber Cup championships in New Delhi, Asian senior championships in Japan and at the Asian junior tournament in Malaysia. She has brought great honour to her school and to the Southern Province having won several individual and team events in the past.

In fact Sureni Kumudu Nandasiri is the most outstanding sportswomen at Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda having made a clean sweep in all inter-school tournaments. She is very much grateful to her school authorities, coaches, masters and teachers in charge for providing their assistance and guidance in the past few years.

She is also thankful to the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Johnston Fernando for all the support provided to the Sri Lankan team before their departure to Netherlands.
