School bands to attract tourists

by Nadira Gunatilleke

Arrangements will be made to hold school band displays and use it as a tourist attraction. Both Eastern and Western school bands will take part in this project. The objective of this project is building up the country's image. An annual event will also be organised to display talents of the school band members, Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr.Karunasena Kodithuwakku said.

He said that under the new government, school children's esteem will not be destroyed by using them to grace political ceremonies. The Cultural Affairs Division of the Ministry has already signed agreements for cultural exchange programs with 30 countries. A cultural calendar will be introduced to schedule those cultural exchange programs, he added.

The Ministry also hopes to make arrangements to provide opportunities for schoolchildren to perform and show their talents in foreign countries, he said.
