First Vanitha Diri Piyasa centre

The first Vanitha Diri Piyasa centre will be opened by Women's Affairs Minister Amara Piyaseeli Ratnayake on March 24 at No.63, Ganemulla Road, Kandana, Ja-ela, a Women's Affairs Ministry spokesman said.

He said that according to the UNF Government's election manifesto, Vanitha Diri Piyasa centres are to be set up at electorate level under the Government's Kantha Diri Maga Program. A Secretariat has already been set up to direct this program.

A lady doctor, a female attorney-at-law, a female counselling officer and a WPC will be attached to all these centres. These centres offer several services for women including solutions for their mental and physical problems, medical and legal advice for sexually harassed women and for women who have problems at their work places. Arrangements will also be made to protect women's human rights through these centres.

Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasooriya, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees Minister Jayalath Jayawardena, Chairman, Timber Corporation, Ms.Renuka Herath, Women's Affairs Ministry Secretary, Ms.Lalitha Dissanayake and other officials will be present at the occasion.
