Butani Group conferred BOI status

The Butani Group of Companies was the first to be given BOI status by the Board of Investment (BOI) in Sri Lanka under the harmonisation scheme. This status was conferred on the Group at a ceremony at the World Trade Centre where the Chairman and Director General of the Board of Investment (BOI), Arjuna Mahendran, Chairman of Butani Group Prakash Butani, Managing Director, Butani Group Kishin Butani Group General Manager, Hassan Sinhawansa and the Group's Attorney Neil Wijeratne attested the documents.

The Butani Group, a truly 100 percent export oriented company recently achieved ISO 9002 status (RVA) EEC (UKAS) UK plans to expand its business further.

The Butani Group of Companies, which has under its umbrella three companies: Butani Exports Ltd in Colombo, PMK Garment (Pvt) Ltd, and INATUB Garment (Pvt) Ltd, both in Giriulla, in the North Western Province was one of the pioneers in the garments trade to open factories in the backwoods of the country to provide employment to the rural folk.

Apart from the three factories, which all provide hostel facilities for machine operators, the Group has opened a training centre at Lunugamvehera/Tangalle and is in the process of opening others in areas such as Dambulla and Kurunegala, a company spokesman said.

The success of the Butani Group has been the management's constant concern for the welfare of the staff at all levels. The Group is now in the process of expanding its factories for space to enable its operators to work in an un-crowded environment, he said.

The Group thanked officials of the BOI for their promptness in granting them the BOI status.
