15 killed in septic tank in northern India LUCKNOW, India, March 14 (AFP) - At least 15 potential army recruits were killed in the northern Indian town of Lucknow on Thursday, when they fell through the cover of a large septic tank, police officials said. Police Superintendent Rajesh Pande said more than 5,000 youths responding to a recruiting drive had been gathered on an open piece of ground when the accident occurred. "A large number were standing on the cover of the tank, when it suddenly gave way and they plunged through," Pande said, adding that the accident had sparked an immediate panic. "So far we have managed to recover 15 bodies, but there could be more," he added. |
