Ananda - Kingswood the key game by Chris Dhambarage The Elephant Lemonade Cup inter school knock out limited over cricket tournament will commence today with a total of six preliminary round matches down for decision in Colombo. The pick of the match on the cards is the clash between Ananda and Kingswood at Ananda Mawatha. The Anandians have experienced mixed fortunes in the current season but managed to make it to the final 30 following a couple of first innings victories. The former champions have a superb track record in this tournament and will be hoping to produce an improved performance. The Kingswoodians have completed a successful season where they emerged runners up in the Elephant Lemonade Cup 'B' Division League tournament. But they are up against a tough opposition and will need to put up a tremendous performance to reach the pre quarterfinals of the competition. St. Joseph's will also have a tough game when they take on Mahanama MV at Darley Road. Mahanama MV were placed third in the Elephant Lemonade Cup 'B' Division League tournament and will be determined to prove themselves in this vital encounter. In addition St. Benedict's will take on Ananda Sastralaya at Kotahena, Nalanda will meet the 'C' Division League champions Harishchandra MV at Campbell Place, De Mazenod College will clash with Thurstan and St. Sebastian's who were placed third in the League will be up against Sri Rahula MV. Meanwhile Lumbini MV the 'A' Division League champions are schedule to meet Mahinda College Galle with the date and the venue to be notified later. The League runners up St. Peter's College are drawn against St. Anne's College Kurunegala. The 'B' Division League champions Richmond College will meet Isipatana with the date and venue to be announced later. The rest of the unconfirmed preliminary round matches are Maliyadeva v St. Anthony's Kandy, Royal v Vidyartha, D. S. Senanayake MV v Revatha MV, Prince of Wales v Wadduwa MV, S. Thomas' Mount Lavinia v Amarasooriya MV, Maris Stella v St. Aloysius and Joseph Vaz v Wesley. All these matches and the pre quarterfinals should be completed on or before March 16. The quarterfinals are schedule for March 19 and the semifinals will be worked off on March 21 with the venues to be notified later. The final will be played on March 24 at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place. |
