NCCSL hails peace effort

"The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) congratulates Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Government of Sri Lanka on signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) leading to a permanent ceasefire arrangement with the LTTE. All Sri Lankans salute this courageous decision, especially the mothers, wives and children of our brave soldiers who will be spared the anxiety of losing their sons, husbands and fathers in the battlefront.

All sectors of people in Sri Lanka should give their fullest support to transform this ceasefire arrangement towards achieving a lasting peaceful settlement to the ongoing conflict. This is the time to make constructive comments, if any, to facilitate the process of achieving a lasting solution.

NCCSL would urge all political parties to play a positive role and become partners in this process. If anyone should find this unacceptable we urge them to give a reasonable time period for the process to succeed rather than obstructing it altogether. Both sides to the conflict have carried the burden of war far too long, with loss of lives and maiming of youth in the prime of their lives. Peace would enable to rebuild the economy to make Sri Lanka a vibrant nation.

NCCSL extend their good wishes and wholehearted co-operation to the Prime Minister and the Government of Sri Lanka in our search for peace."
