A belated hand over

Vehicle No,GG-9393 issued for the official use of former Deputy Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera's Private Secretary Mrs.N.P.K.Balasuriya on 23.10.2001 by the Ministry of Finance and Planning has been handed over to the Kegalle Police on February 18, states a Finance Ministry press release.

This has been done in response to the Finance Ministry general request made on 10.02.2002 seeking the return of Government vehicles provided to various officials of the Ministry of Finance under the previous regime.

A Finance Ministry press release further states that this event belies former Deputy Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera's media announcement on February 12, that all the vehicles referred to in the Finance Ministry newspaper advertisement of February 10th have already been returned.
