Mundogas wants seawall warehouse facility

Mundogas Lanka Limited, a subsidiary of Mundogas Philippines, the latest entrant into the local domestic and auto gas market has called upon the port authorities for the lease of a seawall with warehouse facility and open storage space adjoining the sea wall, industry sources told the Daily News yesterday.

The company has also requested the use of a wharf permanently for the mooring of their storage dump barge "Form Entera'' which they propose to register in Sri Lanka. The barge which, is 90.56 metres in length, 18.35 width and 6.21 meters deep will have a carrying capacity 2,031 tonnes.

The company hopes to replenish this barge outside the Galle harbour with a warehouse facility in the Galle harbour for refilling purposes according to informed sources.

Mundogas has also requested the release of a wooden warehouse in Mabima, Wattala as well as two LPG storing facilities owned by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation on a five year lease contract.

The company will initially import around 10,000 gas cylinders from the Philippines to cater to the domestic market until such time the facilities in Colombo are made available by the end of April with the setting up of the barge.

Mundogas hopes to provide a domestic gas cylinder at around Rs. 325 per cylinder while the company hopes to invest around Rs.17 billion in setting up the local operations.

Minister of Consumer Affairs and Trade Ravi Karunanayake told the media recently that the Government hopes to encourage more competition in all spheres of trade in the country. The Government, he said will do away with existing monopolies in all sectors of trade and investment. (PM)
