IT workshop for Jaffna students

The Ministry of Education in line with its awareness program on IT introduction to GCE Advanced Level will conduct the final workshop of the series in Jaffna this month.

The school IT unit of the Ministry in collaboration with the World Link Program has already conducted workshops in other areas to create awareness among parents, students, teachers, education officers and the general public on the National IT Policy and proposed 'General IT' subject for AL.

Thanksgiving service at YMCA

The officials and the members of the YMCA, Moratuwa have taken steps to develop the YMCA and commenced work from last July on a long term program together with the National Council of the YMCAs of Sri Lanka which is divided into three phases. They are refurbishing of the existing building, constructing of a new weights room, recruiting of a new General Secretary, building of a sports hall with provision to play badminton and to construct a multi-storied building complex.

As the first phase has been completed on schedule there is a thanksgiving service of rededication at 5.30 p.m. today followed by a public meeting chaired by the President of the YMCA, Moratuwa, Lasla Fernando.

Eraj Wijesinghe the President of the National Council of the YMCA's of Sri Lanka and Mrs. Wijesinghe will be the chief guests.


Ceylon Kennel Club show

The 96th Championship show of the Ceylon Kennel Club will be held on Sunday the 17th February at the Police Park Grounds, Havelock Town commencing at 8.30 a.m.

Mrs. June Barracalough a Veteran Licensed All Breed Judge from England will officiate and select the Challenge Certificate Winners among 150 exhibits.

Her husband Mr. Barracalough who is an experienced Ring Steward, will assist in the ring.

Govt Publications Bureau for A'pura

The Government Information Department Anuradhapura District Publications Bureau will be opened on February 18, at 10.30 a.m. at the Anuradhapura District Secretariat premises by Government Information Director Ariya Rubasinghe.

All Government Publications including Gazetes, Establishment Code, Financial Regulations and various Acts and Statutes will be available for sale at this centre.


PGIS conducts short course

The Board of Study in Statistics and Computer Science of the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya has made arrangements to conduct the Short Course on Business Statistics with Computer Applications from February 23 to 25.

This will be an excellent opportunity for interested persons to get (i) a basic understanding of risk management tools using industrial applications and (ii) a computer based practical training related to problems in the finance and insurance sectors. Principal Resource Person of the Short Course is Dr. Ranjith Perera, Director, Imperial Consultants, Bounds Green, London N11 - 2B, U.K. Dr. Perera brings a wealth of international experience as an experienced Financial Consultant to banks and marketing organizations in U.K.

Middle and Senior level managers/executives in the banking, insurance and Marketing sectors, R & D personnel, postgraduate students and university lecturers are eligible to participate in the Short Course.
