First stage of Beira project to be accelerated

The first stage of the Beira Lake Development Project estimated to cost rupees 273 million is to be accelerated under the Government's 100 day Accelerated Development Programme.

Under the first stage, the proximity to Seemamalakaya and the canal banks abutting Nawam Mawatha and Sir James Peiris Mawatha are to be developed by clearing the environment and arresting pollution and by shifting the unauthorized dwellers to new housing schemes proposed to be built in the neighbourhood of Slave Island under Reels Company Limited.

The Project is implemented by the Western Region Development Ministry on a contract given to Sri Lanka Land Reclamation Corporation assisted by engineering and Town Planning expertise of the Urban Development Authority.
